Battle of the Houses of Gods at Horizon College International

Horizon College International (HCI) had her annual Athletic Meet recently in the College grounds at Malabe. The Horizonites of the four houses named after the Greek Gods Zeus, Hermes, Athena and Appollo battled it out to win the coveted trophies.


Hermes house emerged Champions with 735 points and Appollo House were runners up. The Best Athletes of the Meet were Ravindu Dissanayake (Boys) and Sandeera Jayanadie (Girls).

The Chief Guest Mr. Jehan Mubarak, a renowned cricketer a swimmer addressing the gathering congratulated the staff of HCI for organizing and executing  the Athletic Meet in an excellent manner. Encouraging the students he said “every child is a champion.”


The Director of HCI Mrs. Priya Daranagama graced the event as a special invitee. The Principal of HCI Mrs. Maryanne Hills addressing  the gathering said “champions are made from the desire and vision within”. She advised the parents to encourage their children to do sports and elaborated on the fact that the Chief Guest Mr. Mubarak was an all-rounder. She also announced the names of Horizonites who won awards at the John Tarbet meet held recently after competing with over 3,000 students.

The Principal thanked the Head of sports Mrs. Shyama Cooray and her team of PE teachers,  Sectional Heads including Event Coordinator Mrs. Lali Gunasekara for organising the event and she congratulated the Horizonites for taking part in the Athletic meet in the true spirit of sportsmanship. The Principal thanked the Chairman of HCI Mr Upul Daranagama in absentia and expressed her profound gratitude on behalf of all at Horizon for the Chairman's kind patronage. The battle of the Houses of Gods concluded successfully, true to the maxim of HCI- where excellence is a habit.
