Horizon Swimming Meet in the salubrious climes of Malabe

Horizon College International held her first Inter House swimming meet in the salubrious climes of Malabe on 6th February. The HCI swimming pool complex thronged with the young swimmers, staff and parents, with excitement running through everyone’s veins. The chief guest for the event Mrs Priya Darangama (Director) and the Chairman of HCI Mr Upul Daranagama, Principal Mrs Maryanne Hills and other dignitaries were welcomed warmly by the young Horizonites who swam a lap with the beautiful, fragrant flower bouquets which were handed over to the VIP’s by the Head prefect and Sports captains of HCI. The talented dancing troupe of HCI performed an exquisite welcome dance setting the pace for an enthralling day. It was a day filled with fun and enthusiasm for all spectators and participants with a total of 202 young Horizonites (boys and girls) competing in theFree Style, Back Stroke, Individual Medley, Medley Relay and Free Style relay. The special events that created the most amount of exhilaration were the Group games (Marble collecting, Kick Board race, Kick board race with balloons, Obstacle Race and Tug of war). The teachers’ event (25m free style) received a lot of cheer from the spectators -especially the students. After much splish and splash the swimmers of Zeus House emerged as Runners up and Apollo House carried away the championship trophy with much glory.The Chief Guest Mrs Priya Daranagama awarded the trophies to the special award winners Brenda Samarakoon (Apollo House) and Thisandi Thilakasiriwardane( ZeusHouse) who were adjudged as the Junior Champion /Girls. Junior Champion / Boys winner was Mevan Nethsara( Athena House) Senior Champion/ Girls award was bagged by Niyumi Nawalaelle (Athena House) Senior Champion/ Boys award winner was Pabasara Munasinghe (Zeus House).

           The Principal Mrs Maryanne Hills addressing the gathering commended the swimmers of HCI for their prowess, and the swimming coaches and Sports Department on organizing a successful event. As all events at HCI - where excellence is a habit - the Inter House swimming meet was a resounding success.
