“Education” is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today”

I welcome you to a long and enduring journey for your most precious possession – your child. At Horizon College International our teaching faculty, our students, our staff and parents have worked untiringly through this journey of 12 years, enabling the College to achieve the success it has today.

This journey began with a first step taken by our Chairman Mr Upul Daranagama in the year 2009 to fulfill a long felt desire of having a purpose built school offering value based education in the neighborhood of the city of Malabe.  Nestled amidst lush greenery within the 4 acre land stands tall these stately buildings which house the purpose built school. Away from the busy life of a City the location of Horizon College International is a calm and serene atmosphere that is very conducive to teaching and learning. Horizon College is genuinely a co-educational school committed to give identical opportunities to students who join our school family. Horizon College International serves Sri Lankan students and those from the International community. All who join are made welcome and secure.

Choosing a school for your child goes beyond simply comparing factual information or achievement. It must be sought for with ardour. Therefore the style of a school, its vision and purpose and above all its atmosphere will greatly influence your child’s development.

Our teaching faculty is well qualified and experienced and will ignite the fire of curiosity within your child through well planned lessons and modern teaching methodology. Our classroom practices help students adjust easily to their new school where learning is fun, free from the stress of class positions and Activity Based Learning is the dominant form of teaching from Playgroup to Primary.

Our IPrimary curriculum is the Edexcel curriculum where a subject like Global Citizenship is taught from Year 1 enabling our students to enter and be accepted as citizens of the Global Village. It is only in the Middle School that positions emerge. Education at Horizon College International is designed to develop individuals who can critically analyze and problem solve.

These last 16 months have been extremely challenging for children the world over with schools closed and children deprived of interacting with their peers and teachers. We too were affected by this situation but our teaching staff rose to the occasion and switched to “online” teaching within the first week of closure of schools, bearing in mind that the words of John Dewey was so realistic in today’s context .

“If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow “

With life, society and the workplace changing so much today we too have had to change and adapt to a totally new world. We conducted all our end of term and end of year activities from talent shows to quiz competitions, webinars, and digital certificates, to digital reports all in keeping with the new normal.

Our results at the IGCSE and Advanced Level exams have moved from Good to Excellent over the period of time. This year too we have high achievers in both IGCSE and IAL examinations.  Our opportunities afforded to students in sports, such as Swimming, Cricket, Netball, Basketball and Chess have provided our students with overall education, the platform that makes it possible to defeat all barriers and face the challenges of the 21st century with great confidence. Besides striving for academic achievement, we are also interested in the mental health of our students. In order to ensure this we have 2 very experienced counsellors with foreign and local experience who are accessible to our students and parents, if there is a need to talk in confidence to someone who will not sit in judgment upon them.

With this support system and our value education programme, we are convinced that at Horizon College International your child will grow in confidence and academic excellence to meet the growing challenges of the 21st century.

For ultimately –

“Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school “(Einstein)
