Team Green

Team Green is the HCI Environmental Club. Team Green was created to gather Year 7 and 8 students to raise awareness in present and future environmental issues in bringing the Horizon community to be responsible and sensitive about their ecological footprint.

Team Green, was formed on 02/10/2019 with 76 members

Clean up the litter

On 7th October 2019 a clean-up programme was carried out by the Committee members of Team Green  at the school grounds during selections for sports meet to encourage students to keep the environment around us clean.

Say no to polythene bags

Team Green had a poster campaign on the 15th October 2019. Posters were displayed across the school to raise awareness in adverse effects of over use of polythene on the environment.

Priority was given to the canteen area to encourage students to bring a box from home instead using plastic/polythene bags when buying from the canteen or bringing food from home.

The students in Year 7 and 8 joined together in creating and displaying the posters

Planting Ceremony

Team Green organized a tree planting ceremony to commemorate the birthday of HCI founder CEO, Mr. Upul Daranagama. A sapling of a “Dewadara” tree was planted by chairman sir to celebrate his birthday on the 25th October 2019.

Hopper Sale

Team Green organized a fundraiser on the 15th of November 2019. A successful hopper sale was carried out in the old canteen. The “Hopper Sale”, a first in school, was a hit and it is with pride we announce that contributions were made by academic, non academic and administrative staff of school to make this a success. Team Green hopes to carry out yet another Hopper Sale in next Term with many more improvements.

Christmas Day Stall

Team Green organized a “fun games stall” at the Christmas Day, 6th December 2019. This event was a great success where the members as well as the students enjoyed thoroughly. The objective of this was to raise funds to grow vegetable patches, a Project by the Year 7 students of Team Green to be launched in January 2020.

Vegetable Garden Project and Growing ornamental plants

The team Green has initiated a project to grow vegetable and herbs in the school compound.  The initial ground work has already been carried out and the students are eagerly awaiting the planting process which is due on 16th March 2020.

As a part of the project the club is also growing ornamental plants to beautify the school compound  and initiated preparing a compost heap.
